Scitech’s mission is to increase interest and participation by Western Australians in science and technology. Our extensive range of galleries, interactive exhibits, shows and facilities are designed to make science an inspiring and exciting experience.  Scitech offers a huge range of opportunities to both students and teachers in the world of science.

Excursions

Scitech also provides a myriad of services, from the Digital Studio and Horizon - the Planetarium, to the CSIRO Lab and travelling science programs. Engage your students in a specific topic or encourage them to explore different concepts. All our programs are directly linked to the curriculum framework and can be tailored to your needs. Contact our schools’ liason officer to discuss the programs on offer and how they complement your classroom themes.

Incursions

With almost 30% of the WA population living outside the metropolitan area, it is essential for Scitech to provide a comprehensive outreach program. Scitech’s outreach programs have been warmly welcomed in communities from Esperance to Kununurra. They travel to all areas of Western Australia delivering quality science programs to students, teachers and families.

Professional Learning

Scitech's PL Programs offer affordable science workshops for primary and secondary teachers. The programs are available to all WA schools and are endorsed by the Department of Education and Training and the Science Teachers' Association of Western Australia.

Since 2003, our staff have assisted almost 8250 teachers in metropolitan, regional and remote WA better understand the Curriculum Framework, science concepts and skills. As a result, more teachers are delivering the nine science Learning Area outcomes with confidence.

Workshops provide:

• Simple strategies and techniques for planning and teaching science;
• A comprehensive booklet containing strategies for teaching science and a certificate of attendance;
• Hands-on and minds-on activities;
• A follow-up session;
• Opportunities for reflection and discussion;
• Opportunities to share and reflect on science teaching experiences.
